Rating: A
The consummate
Beatles fanatic is absolutely going to have a field day with W.
Fraser Sandercombe’s book on the Fab Four entitled The Press
Reports. Meticulously researched and in chronological order,
this book takes you from the groups humble beginnings of
slogging it out in The Cavern Club in 1962, right through to
their untimely breakup in 1970. Drawing from practically every
British press clipping made available, from music papers such as
Melody Maker, Mersey Beat and The Record Mirror, this book
allows the reader to revisit, in detail, the career of the band
that almost single-handedly charted the course of Rock ‘n Roll.
This book is an easy read and is accompanied by a plethora of
vintage black and white photographs of concert posters, album
covers, picture discs etc… which add a nice touch. If that
wasn’t enough, the end of the book features a 1971 Melody Maker
interview with Producer Sir George Martin, a transcript of the
bands first radio interview in 1962, as well as a Beatles
Timeline. Bottom line is Sandercombe has put together an
incredibly informative tribute to the band that started a
musical revolution. No serious Beatle fan should be without this
book.
