Rick Wakeman – Aspirant Sunset

Ah, isn’t it sweet that
Yes keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman is concerned with our
mental and emotional well being? The back cover of this
CD states, "The world famous keyboard player of the
group Yes created this music to make you feel good and
hopes that it will be a breath of fresh air for you in
our sadly polluted environment. For a better way to
relax."
Um, okay. Thanks Rick.
Have you been hanging out with Yanni? Enya? I mean you
play fewer notes on these ten tracks combined than in
one verse of "Journey to the Center of the Earth." What
gives? New age Wakeman? Okay, so it is relaxing and
being that it comes from Wakeman’s mind it is good
music. It just doesn’t seem to be what the masses want
from him though. Am I alone here thinking that I don’t
want to put Rick Wakeman in to mediate too? Enya? Sure.
Wakeman? No thanks. I want Rick to awe me with his
dazzling brilliance on the keyboards. I want more
"Roundabout" style licks.
In the end, this one
seems more like a Jon Anderson solo effort without words
than something we would expect/want from Rick Wakeman.
