Willie Basse - The Money Grind
New Empire Media
www.williebasse.com

Rating: C

Willie was the mainstay in the West Coast rock band Black Sheep that featured at various times Paul Gilbert, Slash and Randy Castillo. While his former band mates hit the big time with Ozzy, GNR and Mr. Big, Willie remained in obscurity.

The Money Grind is classic hard rock, even though Willie claims he hates that term. The music is frozen in the past and takes little musical risks or chances. It is full of cliches that have been beat to death – still if that is your thing you will love this album as it is played well and the style is true to the era of which he is stuck in. The guy has talent but the time has come for Willie to realize Black Sheep never made it and if he wants a relevant career he needs to dig deeper inside instead of trying to succeed with a formula that left him behind in the first place.
