Germany had a great concert show called Rockpalest in the
1970’s. They are cleaning out the archives via Eagle Rock
Entertainment, much to the delight of music fans. This time out
the main event is a DVD documenting the legendary Meat Loaf
Bat Out of Hell Tour that followed the release of the iconic
album. You get Jim Steinman doing his shtick as well as Meat
doing his. Karla Devito is amazing in her role as her vocals
and on stage energy feed the band and audience and takes the
entire performance up a notch.
The two guitar players were a true surprise. Bob and Bruce
Kulick were on board with Meat & Gang for the show. Bob is the
main man here with younger sibling Bruce taking some leads here
and there as well.
The sound quality comes and goes but then again this is a true
treasure to even view as no one knew this even existed until
Eagle Rock brought it to the table. This is a historic document
in the long career of one of the most iconic singers in American
music history. There is also a wonderful interview with the
reclusive Steinman and Meat that shows how naive the duo were at
the time. They both would soon learn a lot about the music
business. This DVD is a time and age of innocence from a star
that would soon be jaded and shaken to his core.
