Timothy B. Schmit - Expando
Lost Highway Records
www.timothybschmit.com

Rating: B+

Best known as the bass player for the Eagles and the vocalist on the classic song "I Can't Tell You Why" Schmit has released a new solo recording featuring many famous guests including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Keb Mo, Kid Rock, The Blind Boys From Alabama, Bentmont Tench and Garth Hudson.   The music is very Americana at times, best heard in opening number "One More Mile."

Some songs take a more bluesy approach, as is the case with Shepherd's guitar solo filled "Parachute."  At times, Schmit gets funky.  "White Boy From Sacramento" is a fun tune that lays down an infectious groove.  One of the most heartfelt songs on the album is "Secular Praise" which sees Schmit harmonizing with the southern soul shakers The Blind Boys of Alabama.

Song for song, Schmit has released a CD that is much more genuine and listenable than the last Eagles CD.  It is a shame that the Eagles get the Wal-mart exclusive treatment and the promotional machine behind them as Timothy's CD is easily the better of the two.  If you enjoy Eagles style acoustic music mixed with some soulful grooves then check out Expando and
discover that there is much more to Timothy B. Schmit than you may have realized.
