Age of Evil – Get Dead EP
www.ageofevil.com
Rating: B
Age of
Evil is a new Metal band cranking out a mixture of the
new guard and the old. Imagine the voice of Mustaine,
the melody of Priest, the riffage of Metallica and the
angst of Skid Row. Okay…got that imagine? Sounds good,
doesn’t it? Now, and here is the kicker, imagine that
band being made up of teenagers. Now I’ve got your
attention, don’t I?
Age of
Evil is a four-piece band made up of two sets of teenage
brothers who were not even born when Yngwie Malmsteen
was inventing shredding. Us old school rivet heads
should be proud of the youngsters as they took the time
to learn Metal from the roots up. Just to prove that
they are not imitating and regurgitating sounds of the
past, check out the first two tracks on their Get
Dead EP. “Cruel Intentions” may sound modern but
then the lead guitar kicks in and you will swear it is
1987 again – and not Hair Band ’87 but rather some dark,
skanky strip club with the band set up on the back of
the stage playing so loud plaster is falling from the
ceiling. The same goes for the song “Get Dead.” Age of
Evil drives the point home with two remakes, Skid Row’s
“Slave to the Grind” and Judas Priest’s “Electric Eye.”
Both stay true to the songs original intent but showcase
Age of Evil’s own creativity.
This
is a band on the rise. If the sets of brothers can
withstand the insanity of the music business, and the
brutality of the Metal lifestyle, and keep their wits
about them, then they could just be the shot in the arm
Metal needs.
Visit
www.ageofevil.com and check out the songs for
yourself and prepare to be amazed. Order the CD while
you’re there. These kids are struggling artists and for
the price of the five bucks the EP costs, they can
afford to split an extra value meal.
