Enuff Z’Nuff – Dissonance
Grind That Axe Records
www.rockcandyrecords.com
Rating: C+
Talk about a band that has been
around the block a few times… Enuff Z’Nuff’s Chip Z’Nuff
and Donnie Vie have lived the rock n’ roll lifestyle to
the hilt and lived to tell the tale. The band came
close to being rock gods, and in some circles are still
considered rock legends. Excess, success,
embarrassment, falling from grace and survival are all a
part of the band’s legacy. Now, against the odds, Chip
and Donny have actually released an album of new tunes
plus a couple of cool remakes.
The album starts off with
“Dissonance” and it is clear that the band still is
creative and trying to craft their songs. Many bands
take the check and go along their way not caring if it
is crap or not. In this case, Vie and Z’Nuff have put
together a good CD. Sure, there are clunkers and there
are songs that won’t make the iPod playlist but this is
Enuff Z’Nuff, don’t get your panties in a wad. Check
out the title track as well as “Lazy Dazy,” “High” and
“Altered States” and you will see these guys are rocking
hard and flying the flag for the Sunset Strip bands of
yesteryear.
Also included is a daring yet cool
version of the Prince classic “When Doves Cry”
and a remake of the Beatles “Run For Your Life.” Don’t
be tempted to write Enuff Z’Nuff as just another hair
band trying to make beer money. This album ain’t half
bad.
