Thirty
songs from CCR. Not a bad thing but not exactly something that
has not been done in some form or another many times over. So,
what makes this one special enough to shell out the bucks for it
when you probably have most of the classic songs already in your
CD collection?Good question but nonetheless a question that can
actually be answered.
For
starters, there is a four song bonus DVD containing video
representations of the songs “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,”
“Bootleg,” “I Put a Spell on You” and “Lookin’ Out My
Backdoor.” There is also a commemorative poster (remember those
from back in the day) that shows the covers for all of the
band’s singles. Lastly, this is not just a greatest hits
collection. While all, and we mean all, of the classics are
included, there is also a ton of songs that may not be so
remembered by the casual fan. “Porterville,” “Call It
Pretending,” “Walk on the Water,” “Door to Door” and Tearin’ Up
the Country” show a much more complete picture of CCR as a total
band.
This is a
band that is remembered as much for inner turmoil and
controversy as they are for amazing music. CCR helped usher in
guitar rock with “Suzie Q,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Fortunate Son”
and “Run Through the Jungle.” This collection celebrates all
things CCR in a very special manner.
