Trillion made not so much a splash in 1978 when this album was originally released as they did a ripple. The band had promise as seen in the first two tracks, “Hold Out” and “Big Boy” but floundered and were unable to capitalize on what could have been. The band is best remembered for being the starting point for vocalist Fergie Frederiksen, who went on to sing for Toto.
Trillion had talent and were very much in the pomp rock style of Kansas and, especially Styx, but they lacked the ability to write a true hit single. “Give Me Your Money Honey” came close but in the end Trillion faded away as quickly as they hit the scene. They are another case of a band with musical talent who lacked the level of uniqueness and creativity needed to rise, and stay, at the next level. The end result is a blip on the radar screen of Musical History.
Trillion is an example of how hard it is to make it in the music business. A band needs more than talent and often times more than luck. More often than not they also need the publicity machine and the record company’s dollars. Trillion got neither of the latter two and were quickly relegated to the cheap bins.
