Strip, 80’s bombastic rock coming from…. Georgia? Yep, Asphalt
Valentine is currently rocking Atlanta and surrounding area,
promoting their debut album Strip Rock Roll. These guys
are not pin-up pretty like Poison, they’re more like sleazy and
greasy like early Motley or GNR – okay maybe not that good but
they are, as Larry David would say in an episode of Curb Your
Enthusiasm, “pretty…pretty…pretty good.”
There seems
to be a revival for sleazy, hair band types filling the
underground but, lets face it, most of them suck and suck bad.
Asphalt Valentine, on the other hand, seem to embrace the music
first and the attitude and lifestyle second. In other words,
they don’t suck. Plus, they have a hot looking slutty chick on
the cover of their CD. Kinda like a young Courtney Love mixed
with a cracked out Britney Spears. YOWZA!
There is
much more to this band than 80’s hair metal. AV have songs that
take the best of early Skid Row, GNR, and even a bit of Quiet
Riot and The Cult, and put it all together to make their own
sound. The music is high energy, melodic and includes guitar
solos -- a winning combination if I ever heard one!
