Rival Sons – Before the Fire
www.myspace.com/rivalsons

Rating: B+

I have good news for the faithful brethren that is Classic Rock Revisited… Rock n’ Roll is alive and well and still cranked up on the Sunset Strip!  Don’t believe me?  Just check out the link above for a band called Rival Sons.  These sombitches are playing rock n’ roll that matters.  This is not just a ‘let’s sound like Zeppelin’ thing – it is the real deal.

Rival Sons are a kick ass band whose sound harkens back to the 70’s and 80’s in both sound and spirit, however, they have a component not found in most other revivalist bands… they have songwriting talent.  Rival Sons write music in the classic rock style but it still sounds fresh, new and, dare I say it, original.  They may just be the Great White Hope for hard rock.

The album opens with a Led Zep style riff rocker titled “Tell Me Something.”  Following that song is “Lucky Girl” which shows these guys have listened to The Cult a time or two.  “I Want More” is dripping with the Who.  While I am making these comparisons, I must, again, point out that these are not just sound-alikes or copycats.  They show their influences but they are doing their own thing and it works.  Rival Sons are an impressive band that, hopefully, has a bright future ahead of them.

As the truest rockers on the planet, the Classic Rock Revisited readers need to get behind bands like Rival Sons and support them.  Check ‘em out and listen to a few tunes on their MySpace and me thinks you will agree 100%.
