Status Quo – In Search of the Fourth Chord
Eagle Records

Rating: B-

Status Quo have released what must feel like their 600th album.  The boys seem to have an endless supply of water rushing into their musical well.  After 599 albums they have finally discovered that they, as a band, can do more than just play three chords…now they are searching for the fourth, an act that may propel them into the realm of creativity, providing the band with another hundred songs!  All joking aside, it is cool as hell that a seasoned group of Brits can have a sense of humor about themselves.

Besides having a smirk with the title, Quo has actually released one of their best albums in decades.  There are moments on this sucker that rival their huge and varied back catalog.  “Beginning of the End” and “Alright” start the disc out the right way.  The guitars are cranking and the mood is pure rock n’ roll.  There are good songs all the way through, even though tunes such as “Pennsylvania Blues” and “Tongue Tied” are not necessarily what one would expect from the band.  That is not a bad thing as Quo continue their quest to twist and turn and keep their fans on their toes.

This is one of the those discs that is good right out of the box but the more if finds its way into your CD player, the more you will appreciate it.  A fine outing from a bunch of old blokes.
