Trigger were one of the many ‘shudda, wudda, cudda’
bands of the 1970’s. Signed to the Casablanca label,
made famous by Kiss, the band came as close to stardom
as a band can come without actually making it.
Unfortunately for Trigger, Casablanca were running out
of both steam and cash just as the 1978 debut hit the
shelves. The album, despite containing songs filled
with hooks, solos and wicked harmonies, bit the dust, as
the publicity machine wasn’t firing on all cylinders
when it needed to be.
The
band stuck for a while and opened for every big name act
in the business, unfortunately the magic of the first
album dissipated and it became clear that Trigger had
prematurely shot their load. Still, the first album is
a gem. Opening with “Somebody Like You,” a musical
statement that should have filled the airwaves, the
album rocks from beginning to end. “Gimmie Love”
featured a guitar lick that would have been adored by
rock fans if they had ever heard it while “Shake It Up”
was the three-chord rocker and live favorite.
Trigger’s album is worth checking out and will be of
particular interest to the Rock Nerd community that MUST
own every good song that was ever recorded in their
favorite era. Trigger is proof that it takes more than
just talent to make it in the wacky world of the music
business.
