Coney Hatch – 4

Rating: B

Coney Hatch is a melodic and heavy rock band from Canada, who flirted with major success in the early to mid- 1980’s.  Best described as a heavy metal version of April Wine, the band were rock stars in their home country, yet, the rest of the world did not take enough notice to push them over the edge to international stardom.

A few years ago, guitarist and vocalist Carl Dixon was involved in a terrible car wreck and was in a coma.  During that time, his friend and Coney Hatch band mate, Andy Curran, made him a promise that if he woke up then the band would play again.  Carl woke up and Andy kept his promise.  Originally, they reformed to play live shows, but they were such a live force they quickly began receiving offers for a new album. Now, several decades down the line and Coney Hatch are back with their fourth album.

Like a caveman frozen in block of ice, Coney Hatch have not aged since the ‘80s and their sound is the same guitar driven hard rock, picking up right where they left off.

The album opens with one of the best songs the band has ever written, “Blown Away” and just keeps rocking throughout the entire album.  The vocals, the guitars, the songs…this is classic Coney Hatch!

If you were a fan of this band then you will quite pleased with 4.  If you missed them the first time around, get onboard and buy this one.  You will love is so much I guarantee you will go back and buy the rest of their catalog.

Coney Hatch are among the top of the “Shudda Make It Big List” and they are still pushing forward in 2013.  Catch the Hatch while you can!
