Motorhead – Aftershock
October 21st, Motorhead will release their 21st album and, are you ready for this…it is the best fricking album, start to finish they have ever recorded. Yes, I know…and I like the early shit. However, this band is kicking ass and busting balls from the opening note of “Heartbreaker” to the final bashing of “Paralyzed.”
Lemmy sounds like his vocal chords have been sliced open, had kerosene poured on them, had them set on fire and then had them placed back in his throat---and I mean that in a good way. He is gritty, gruff, dirty and downright awesome from start to finish. The band plows out a high octane barrage of riffs and downbeats that bash skulls and scare the shit out of old people…well, really old people, as we are kinda getting old ourselves…really, really, really old people…a lot older than Lemmy…yeah, it scares them a lot…them and babies.
“Long Woman Blues” is a grinding tune that is destined to become a classic Motorhead song. “Queen of the Damned” has an “Ace of Spades” quality that is every bit as addictive. “Knife,” pardon the pun, cuts to the bone with spunky distorted riffage.
Lemmy may be aging and he may be having an occasional health scare, but he remains a living testament to living life to the fullest by doing what you love and loving what you do. With Aftershock, he has shaken the fan base to their core, giving them what they have drooled and hoped for…a true, bombastic classic Motorhead album.
